shopwindows street theatre, mannequins telling a silent story, no one speaks to them..we cant hear what they are saying, they stand quietly not moving.....what is the message?
This is one of the walls in Salir that Bota Filipe is working on at the moment, on the left hand side is a very small window which I am going to visually extend painting it realistically and painting the wall like the interior of the room, thus connecting the concept to the Magritte room .
Hilary and I were invited upto Zefa 2 in Salir, when we arrived there were around twenty people present, Bota Filipe showed us around the Quinta and some of the already painted buildings. Finally I was shown into a small room that was roofless, on the walls were written in Portuguese a set of questions, as I navigated my way round with some help....it dawned on me that I was being invited to paint the room....total freedom...I must have looked totally surprised at the offer....everyone began to laugh and joke...they had all been in on the secret. What was my idea??????? And when was I going to start and when would it be finished?
is busy working on a new series of works callled " metroplex" based on imagery from fly posted walls....urban grafitti.....and street life in general.....quirky corners of cities in particular manchester
