Text and Image 2016

thus post is an ongoing record of ideas using random text to create new realities .... New narratives....that collide like asteroids in space ....revisiting Chance....a new poetic language..... Unglued sometimes .....so the work is temporary ...unfixed....in a state of flux.... Images are free to move at will.....text creates subliminal images ....if at all possible .....accidental meetings are to be welcomed.......these ideas are heading towards an exhibition in Fort Kochi in 2017 as part of Jigsaw Artists Collective ....Kavitha Balakrishnan ..poet....Hilary Dehn digital artist ....and myself .....the curator is Kuzhur Wilson ..poet

Mail Art ....Projects

The Exquisite Corpse and others...

Here are a selection of various Mail Art projects the first is a collaboration with Paul Clifford.
2004 Drumcroon Arts Centre, Wigan
2004 Oriel Gallery, Carmarthen
2004 Galeria d'Arte do Convento Espirito Santo, Loule, Portugal
This body of work is a result of a collaboration between two travelling artists who share an empathy for surrealism and travelling. The work has been prompted by journeys made between several global locations, including Portugal, France, Germany, India, Cyprus, Spain, USA and North Yorkshire.
A series of several hundred mail art paintings have been created and posted in a reciprocal visual dialogue, that has resurrected the surrealist game of the "Exquisite Corpse" within a contemporary cultural context. The project explores and extends the potential of accidental encounters, using intervention from the world postal systems, with stamps, franking and official annotation becoming integral to the poetics of the image.
The small scale ( 20 x 30 cm ) mail works have also been extended into a series of digital images and of 4 large scale ( 120 x 150 cm ) paintings in mixed media.

Unglued unfixed collages a moveable feast

The idea of unfixed unglued collages began when I was at the artists village Cholomandal south of Chennai in Tamil Nadu.......I collected posters from the streets and began to reassemble them on the floor in the studio....a moveable construction....it spread and spread .......I have recently resurrected the idea in my studios in Portugal and the UK....building layers of images at random then Freezing them in the camera ....I like the idea of this ongoing story telling involving collisions and juxtapositions.....chance meetings like the umbrella and the sewing machine......impermanence is important just like posters in the streets that are subject to the elements or in India goats licking the glue......it is short lived information more information is added on a regular basis ...often old information is still visible....the walls have a history .......I am recreating this chance process using posters from both India and Portugal......I am hoping to exhibit some at Kochi Bookshop in Cochin in Kerala.... In 2015....
