joao espada and charlie hard @work?
welcome to the 4th festival med exhibition an intervention in the street, for the past 3 years artists have worked on canvas.....time for a change....you may have seen painted cows...bears...dolfins....sheep....all made of fibreglass....this year here in loule we have doors....yes doors....made from wood??....each artist has been given one half of a double door and the name of a country....which they have been asked to interpret in any way...each artist is unaware of who or what is being done to the other half of the door.....even i have forgotten who is doing what....the doors and names where given at random...the idea being to mix countries and culture in the streets of the festival...music is a universal language as is art..........i think that you can see from the results some very intriguing meetings of ideas have been thrown up.....from bettys snow footprint in finland and the almost snowlike landscape in carloses australian landscape.......brigitte actually went to egypt on holiday... i had no idea at the time.......dre had russia...Fantasy Folklore Russian Vasilisa.....tells the story of a girl and the witch of the forest who lives in a house supported on chicken legs.....an imaginary world of fantastic and grotesque characters, dolls from wood with life, and skull knights........ with gustavo in cuba with the population having no freedom bound in ropes....paulas italian neopoltan stripes collides with vitangas usa.....greece by aderita stands next to pessoa by joao espada....claudia looks at the spanish poet cervantes whilst melita languishes in cape verde.........alex tells a story about africa on both sides of the door whilst marianna has created chaos in mexico....teresa has taken the traditional jewish headgear ....joao has just returned from brazil in real life...raul enjoyed the textures of the door so much he retrained them and added some leaves....under peters door are some tango dancers now oblterated with the argentine national anthemn...in chalk...you can rub it off but the text remains in your memory....when the show is over he intends to write a poem every week on the door whilst it hangs in his garden....joel is in la belle france whilst jess is grappling with turkish wrestlers.....for my part im in maroc a spiritual home.....
