exhibition...drumcroon gallery uk

here are a couple of shots at the opening at the drumcroon gallery in wigan with two other artists nikki parmenter and eric gaskell, the title of the
show is "who do we think we are?" here i am with ivy at the private view...what an amazing night meeting lots of old feriends that i hadnt seen for ages including rod taylor and keith walker and of course derek boak. rod founded the centre almost 30 years ago and keith was an influential director of the centre for a number of years...and derek is an old mate. the show runs til july.

shop windows street theatre, mannequins telling a silent story, no one speaks to them..we cant hear what they are saying, they stand quietly not moving.....what is the message?

the generals wall in salir

This is one of the walls in Salir that Bota Filipe is working on at the moment, on the left hand side is a very small window which I am going to visually extend painting it realistically and painting the wall like the interior of the room, thus connecting the concept to the Magritte room .

Hilary and I were invited upto Zefa 2 in Salir, when we arrived there were around twenty people present, Bota Filipe showed us around the Quinta and some of the already painted buildings.Finally I was shown into a small room that was roofless, on the walls were written in Portuguese a set of questions, as I navigated my way round with some help....it dawned on me that I was being invited to paint the room....total freedom...I must have looked totally surprised at the offer....everyone began to laugh and joke...they had all been in on the secret.What was my idea??????? And when was I going to start and when would it be finished?

"the unknown island" in salir almost complete.

The unknown island is a story by Jose Saramago, it is about a man who asks the king for a boat so that he can search for the unknown island. The king is busy receiving presents from the door of favours? The king says all the islands have been discovered but the man disagrees.He says he will not leave the door of petitions until the king acceeds to his request. The king gives in because he wants to return to the door of favours.The cleaning lady at the palace decides to accompany the man.What happens next?

"the stone raft in salir "a work in progress.

The Stone Raft is a story by Jose Saramago, it is about "cause and effect", the Iberian penninsular separates from Europe and floats off towards the Azores? Why?Joana Carda a Portuguese woman scratches a mark on the ground and at the same time..... all the dogs in Cerberes began to bark....at the same time a man in Portugal called Joaquim Sassa picks up a stone and skims it across some water...at the same time Pedro Orce stands up from his chair and the earth trembles...at the same time Jose Anaico sees an enormous flock of starlings.....at the same time Maria Guavaira goes to her attic and finds an old sock....at the same time a crack appears in the Pyrenees........what happens next?
