"Possible record sleeves"
Independent record shops have been in sharp decline from their heydays in the 60s and 70s......they where places to hang out...listen to the latest music.....I went the "Spinning Disc" in Rochdale.......gone.....the top ten was important...then bang the arrival of the www.....downloads....high rents etc....have all played there part.....these shops are more than shops....they are watering holes for music addicts....you met your mates......the big chains never had this......if we want to keep these oases of music culture then we must support them....." the last shop standing".....a recent publication by Graham Jones....which is now a film...that traces the rise and fall of these much cherished bits of English culture......they are emporiums of musical treasure....Jones efforts are truly homemade...hand built from start to finish....written with affection.....
This small exhibition @ Vinyl Exchange is my small contribution In helping their survival......the works on show are entitled..." Possible record sleeves".....altered images......recycled covers given a new lease of life.....
Please visit these shops....watch the video.......buy the book.....more important buy a record or CD.......if you don't then we lose them forever....
